TOKYO — Even as Japanese toy maker Tomy celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, the Beyblade family of spinning battle tops continues to thrive.
The fourth generation of the family, the super-accelerated Beyblade X became a huge hit, selling 5 million in less than a year after its release. Tomy introduced a system to give users points every time they play, encouraging them to play more and earn enough points to get rare blades. The total number of points awarded so far is 6.5 billion.
