BOJ faces tricky path toward a rate hike as Fed goes other way

TOKYO — If the Bank of Japan were to raise policy rates while the U.S. went in the opposite direction, such a gambit would completely upset the dominance established over the past quarter century.

The BOJ backed its policy on Friday, two days after the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates by half a percentage point, the first cut in four years.
