Chairman of Yaskawa Electric Ogasawara wins prize for quality control

TOKYO — The Japan Union of Scientists and Engineers announced on October 1 the winners of the 2024 financial Deming Prize, which recognizes companies and individuals who have made outstanding achievements in research in total quality management (TQM) and other fields. The Deming Prize for Individuals was awarded to Hiroshi Ogasawara, Chairman of Yaskawa Electric. Ogasawara has been praised for promoting strong leadership and global quality management and quadrupling the company's market capitalization during his seven years as company president.

The three recipients of the Deming Distinguished Experience Award, given to individuals who have achieved distinguished achievements in the research and dissemination of TQM, are Hisakazu Shindo, professor emeritus of Yamanashi University; Prem Motwani, former professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India; and Yoshiro Mitsufuji, contract advisor for the Japan Union of Scientists and Engineers.
