TOKYO — China is increasingly suspected of training “white hat” hackers, who are typically used to find cyber security vulnerabilities, and are ramping up the country's offensive efforts by effectively mobilizing world-class private hackers to carry out cyber attacks.
An investigation by Nikkei and other organizations found that since 2021 — when China is required to report vulnerabilities in software and other products to the government — the number of attacks suspected of Chinese involvement has risen sharply.
