China to strengthen military education at universities

BEIJING — China is moving forward with legislation to strengthen military education for high school and university students, part of a push by Chinese President Xi Jinping to place more emphasis on national security in education.

Lawmakers will consider the draft amendment to the National Defense Education Law by Friday at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body. The bill passed the first reading in April and could be adopted by the end of the year.
