China’s $200 phones put Samsung on the run in Philippines

MANILA/GUANGZHOU — Chinese smartphone vendors are putting long-time leader Samsung Electronics on the defensive over the proliferation of budget phones under the $200 equivalent in Southeast Asia.

Mark Manga, 25, from Cavite, Philippines, bought an Infinix phone made by Chinese manufacturer Transsion Holdings for 9,999 pesos ($178).
