Chinese aircraft carrier enters southern Japan contiguous zone

TOKYO (Kyodo) — A Chinese aircraft carrier entered the contiguous zone outside Japan's territorial waters for the first time on Wednesday, sailing from the East China Sea between remote islands south of Japan, the Japanese Defense Ministry said.

The ministry confirmed that the Chinese Navy's aircraft carrier Liaoning and two destroyers passed the contiguous zone between Okinawa Prefecture's Yonaguni and Iriomote islands to the south on Wednesday morning and headed into the Pacific Ocean, but did not enter Japan's territorial waters.
