Chinese EVs still cheaper than Teslas in U.S. after tariff hike

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK — Even after the Biden administration's massive tariff increase on imported Chinese electric cars takes effect, some models will remain cheaper than competing American cars, a sign of deeper problems facing Washington's EV policy.

The 100% duty on EVs, announced Friday and set to take effect on September 27, comes after a four-year investigation by the Office of the US Trade Representative into what it called unfair trade practices.
