Georgia’s growing Asian population boosts Democrats’ U.S. election hopes

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — How is an Indian-American candidate for state senate doing in Georgia these days? In Ashwin Ramaswami's case, she visits a local cafe known for its red bean scones and matcha lattes and discusses her ideas with a group of Korean American mothers.

Ramaswamy is a 25-year-old Stanford University graduate who gave up a government cybersecurity job to run as a Democrat in Georgia's 48th Senate District, which covers much of Atlanta's north suburbs and is 28.3% Asian-American. Atlanta Regional Commission.
