Halo-halo, which means “to mix” in Tagalog, is a hodgepodge of flavors and textures, from shaved ice and tropical fruits to jelly and sweet beans. It is said to have originated from Japanese shaved ice kakigorifrom fast food chains and restaurants to specialty shops are found all over Manila.
