India and China finally reach key border patrol agreement

NEW DELHI — India and China have agreed on patrol arrangements along their disputed Himalayan border in a breakthrough in talks aimed at resolving a four-year standoff.

New Delhi's announcement on Monday comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Kazan in Russia to attend the 16th BRICS summit. Local media speculate that he may hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping within the framework of the conference.
