Indo-Pacific leaders race to meet with next U.S. president after election

WASHINGTON — Japan and South Korea are planning to secure a high-level meeting with the next president of the United States after the November 5 election, which will bring together multiple leaders in the Americas.

With polls showing a tight race between Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump, each embassy has two plans: either the head of state visits Harris in Washington or visits Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
