CHICAGO – U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will travel to Beijing next week to meet with top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi, the first visit by a U.S. national security adviser to China since 2016, as part of efforts to stabilize relations between the two superpowers.
A senior US administration official told reporters on Friday that Sullivan's visit will be part of a “strategic communication channel” between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping at a summit in California last November, aimed at managing competition and tensions responsibly.
