TOKYO — Investors in Japanese markets are focused on who will be elected as the next leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on Friday, as that person is likely to become the next prime minister.
The LDP leadership race has narrowed to three candidates: former environment minister Shinjiro Koizumi; Shigeru Ishiba repeatedly failed to reach high office; and Sanae Takaichi, who has a chance to become the first female prime minister.
