SHANGHAI/HONG KONG — The killing of a 10-year-old Japanese boy in the southeastern Chinese city of Shenzhen this week has left Japanese communities across the country scrambling for extra security.
An emergency meeting was called in Shanghai on Friday morning between the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai, the Shanghai Japanese Commerce and Industry Club and Japanese schools in the city. Consul General Masaru Okada told reporters after the meeting that “a great deal of concern is spreading among Japanese people.” He said the Japanese government would provide financial and human resources to strengthen security measures.
