Japan’s Ishiba eyes more renewables and less nuclear in energy mix

TOKYO — Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Saturday highlighted Japan's potential to develop renewable energy sources and pledged to increase their share of the country's total energy supply, saying he would give decarbonization a high priority as his government prepares an economic stimulus plan.

“Japan has huge untapped potential for renewable energy development, including geothermal, wind and small-scale hydropower,” Ishiba said in an interview with Nikkei Asia.
