Japan’s leadership race focuses on aid for inflation-weary voters

TOKYO — Candidates to replace Prime Minister Fumio Kishida as head of Japan's ruling party are racing to show voters how to ease the economic burden, but such policies could hurt the country's finances.

Burdened by low approval ratings, Kishida chose not to run again for the leadership of the Liberal Democratic Party. The winner of that competition will be the next prime minister of the country.
