Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical weighs sale of pharmaceutical unit

TOKYO — Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Group has reassessed its position in the R&D-intensive pharmaceuticals sector to free up funds for its declining chemicals business, taking steps to sell subsidiary Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma.

The chemical maker is said to have retained a mergers and acquisitions advisory firm and is approaching foreign funds in connection with the sale. Negotiations are believed to be at an early stage.
