Key U.S. state’s growing Asian population boosts Democrats’ election hopes

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — How is an American Indian candidate for state senate doing in Georgia these days? In Ashwin Ramaswami's case, she visits a local cafe known for its red bean scones and matcha lattes and discusses her ideas with a group of Korean American mothers.

Ramaswamy is a 24-year-old graduate of Stanford University who gave up a government cybersecurity job to run as a Democrat in Georgia's 48th Senate District, which covers much of Atlanta's north suburbs and is 28.3% Asian-American. Atlanta Regional Commission.
