Kumamoto tackles traffic woes amid semiconductor boom

KUMAMOTO — As the semiconductor industry boom exacerbates traffic problems in Kumamoto prefecture's capital, local authorities and financial institutions are moving to introduce staggered business hours and remote work to ease gridlock and steer the region toward sustainable development.

Kumamoto Prefecture and the city of Kumamoto on Japan's southernmost main island of Kyushu have launched initiatives for some 4,000 staff members, while Kyushu Financial Group (FG) and its subsidiary Higo Bank are also stepping in to clear the confusion.
