Malaysian auto sales close in on ASEAN leader Indonesia

TOKYO/KUALA LUMPUR/JAKARTA/BANGKOK — Malaysia, Southeast Asia's second-largest auto market, is closing in on Indonesia's largest on strong consumer spending amid a strong economy.

Malaysia recently overtook Thailand to take second place, and its growth, along with declines in Indonesia and Thailand, signals a major shift in the developing region's auto market.
