Myanmar starts census for 2025 election as civil war rages on

YANGON/BANGKOK — Myanmar's military government began conducting a census on Tuesday as part of voter registration for general elections it plans to hold next year, despite an intensifying civil war with ethnic and other resistance forces.

The census, scheduled to run until October 15, will measure Myanmar's population and age distribution for the first time in 10 years. A December deadline has been set for areas where heavy fighting is taking place.
