New Japan cabinet: Kato to be named finance minister, Iwaya as foreign minister

TOKYO — Japan's next prime minister, former defense minister Shigeru Ishiba, has decided to fill three key cabinet posts with a former top government spokesman and two graduates of his old job, the Nikkei has learned.

Katsunobu Kato, the former secretary general of the Cabinet of Ministers, will be appointed as the finance minister. Former Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya will be chosen by Ishiba as Foreign Minister, and former Defense Minister Gen Nakatani as the new Defense Minister.
