New Tokyo condo listings plunge 50% as hotel developers snap up land

TOKYO — New condominium listings in the greater Tokyo area fell 50% in August to a record low, data released Thursday showed that developers were battling for land with hotel developers.

According to the Real Estate Economics Institute (REEI), that figure fell by 728 units in the fifth month of the year, the lowest for August since data collection began in 1973.
