'NFL PRO ERA' Heads to Live Service This Fall, Kicking Off With New Linebacker Position

NFL PRO ERAThe NFL football VR game series will be relaunched as a live service game later this year, with both previous owners NFL PRO SEASON (2022) And NFL PRO SEASON II (2023) New version of the game.

Scheduled to release this fall, the new base game will feature free play, a full season mode, exhibition mode, and updated rosters and uniforms.

Developer StatusPro says in a Meta blog post that players who own previous versions will get the new base game for free, with the option to purchase the planned 2025 Edition Upgrade, which includes additional content, at a discounted price.

The paid 2025 Edition also adds some new abilities, such as the ability to play defensively as a linebacker, expanding the game beyond the previous point guard-only gameplay, and also supports online multiplayer.

The linebacker position will first be introduced in the single-player simulation mode at launch, but a full head-to-head multiplayer mode, including defensive play, will be added to the game in an update later this year.

Accordingly Diversity, Additional content packs available throughout the season will cost $5.

NFL PRO ERA It's also planned to feature a new Social Sports Complex hub where players can interact and take on challenges, as well as “smarter” AI, according to the studio.

Both the original 2022 version and NFL PRO ERA and 2023 NFL PRO SEASON II It's available across Quest, SteamVR headsets, PSVR 2, and Pico headsets. The studio hasn't confirmed whether the new 2025 version will be coming to all of those headsets this Fall, so far only confirming Quest support.

The move to a live-service model follows recent funding, including a $20 million Series A round led by Google Ventures earlier this year that the company said would help it expand its growing catalog of sports-focused VR games.
