NEW YORK/WASHINGTON — Nippon Steel vice president and executive vice president Takahiro Mori, along with US Steel CEO David Burritt, met with several U.S. Treasury officials on Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the negotiations.
Details of the discussions were not disclosed. According to the company's official, the US side proposed to hold the meeting and “the visit of the vice-chairman and others to the US was decided hastily”. The Treasury Department oversees the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), which reviews foreign investment deals for security risks.
