Nippon Steel’s profit per tonne is triple U.S. Steel’s, double others’

TOKYO — Japan's Nippon Steel is the world's top traditional steelmaker in terms of profit per volume produced, far outstripping its closest competitors.

The company made about $150 per tonne of crude steel produced for the April-June quarter — roughly double that of other blast furnace operators such as Europe's ArcelorMittal and South Korea's Posco Holdings.
