Meta has leaked images of the Quest 3S in an update to its PC software, revealing a game that is likely to be pitched as a cheaper alternative to the Quest 3.
First noticed by Reddit user 'Gary_the_mememachine', the image can be found in the files of the Meta Quest Link client for PC.
At the time of writing, Meta has not removed the image from the latest software update. If your client has been updated, you can find it yourself by following this path:
C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-dash\dash\data\js\assets\src\apps\dash\asset_files\experience-panels
Like many titles in the 'Experience panels' folder, the title goes by the codename 'Panther'. The codename was first noticed by serial data miner Luna while digging through the v65 UX files in the Quest software.
Right now, all signs point to the Quest 3S launching soon, as a new Meta headset was recently approved by the FCC, which comes just a few weeks before Meta Connect 2024 takes place on September 25-26.
Here we hope to confirm a few rumors currently floating around, including whether it will have the same Fresnel lenses and display as the Quest 2, whether it will have the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset as the Quest 3, and whether it will actually reach its rumored $299 price point.
We also hope to find out when Meta will make HorizonOS available to third-party OEMs, including XR devices from hardware partners like ASUS, Lenovo, and Xbox.
