Pope, Jokowi call for peace efforts in ‘historic’ Indonesia visit

JAKARTA — Pope Francis and Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called for strengthening interfaith peace efforts to resolve conflicts around the world, including in Gaza, during a meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The two met for about an hour a day after Francis arrived in Indonesia's capital, home to the world's largest Muslim population. This is the third papal visit to the Southeast Asian country, following Pope John Paul II's visit in 1989.
