Renewable energy wasted worldwide due to lack of power grids

TOKYO — While renewable energy is attracting more investment worldwide, a significant bottleneck has emerged: inadequate power grids. One estimate suggests that solar and wind installations capable of generating electricity equivalent to 480 nuclear reactors remain disconnected from transmission grids in the US and Europe.

In Asia, South Korea's government rejected an application by US asset manager BlackRock to build an offshore wind farm in January, citing a lack of available grid capacity, according to local media.
