TOKYO — Russia has decided to remove the Afghan Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations. The decision comes months after rival extremist group Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for a mass shooting at a concert near Moscow.
As the quagmire in Ukraine deepens and Russia seeks to create an anti-Western bloc, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday that the decision to remove the Taliban from the terrorist list had been made at the highest level. The final decision will be made public after the completion of the parliamentary procedures.
