Seven & i to corral noncore assets to focus on convenience stores

TOKYO — Seven & i Holdings, the owner of the 7-Eleven convenience store chain, said it will increase its focus on its core convenience store business as it struggles to raise its corporate value, a task made more urgent by the acquisition. The offer comes from Canadian convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard.

The Japanese retail group announced Thursday that it will reduce stakes in a number of businesses outside its core department store operation as it reorganizes non-core businesses.
