Kluge Interactive, the studio behind the popular VR rhythm game Synth Riders (2019), announced its upcoming VR fighting game. LAST RAGEIt will be shown off at Steam Next Fest on October 14th, which of course means a playable demo.
Last Fury is a fast-paced fighting game that puts you in the arena for arcade-style combat; Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat— but with a very physical VR game.
Now the studio says: Last Fury The demo, featuring two opponents named Tempest and Glitch, will be available for download between October 14-28.
This follows a major setback following user testing late last year that led the studio to “rethink everything”.
“It's not often you hear those words followed by good news. But that's exactly what happened next. LAST RAGE Public playtesting took place late last year,” Kluge Interactive says in a Steam news update. “We crafted scenes, made animations, and built systems. We even got positive feedback from players! Yet the Glitch hit us like a long-range haymaker: combat “We had to rethink their controls.”
The team says it's refocusing on movement mechanics from December 2023 to September 2024, and the new demo shows Kluge believing it could be “the future of fighting games.”
Kluge says there's no word on when to expect the full release, which is planned to hit Quest and SteamVR headsets as well as “as many platforms as possible.” But when it arrives, we can expect more playable fighters, arenas, and online PvP multiplayer; So far the studio has revealed four more characters besides Tempest and Glitch, so it doesn't look like there's a good slate yet.
Additionally, following the release of the Steam Next Fest demo, the studio stated that all future playtests “will be open to everyone, so there is no need to sign up.”
