Taiwan reports record incursions as China holds large military exercise

TAIPEI/TAINAN, Taiwan — Taiwan's defense ministry said on Monday that a record number of Chinese military aircraft, helicopters and drones intervened as Beijing began a major exercise involving the island democracy.

The ministry said the presence of China's Liaoning aircraft carrier in the vicinity was also “creating pressure,” while experts cited the extensive use of the Chinese Coast Guard as a significant development from past maneuvers.
