The downfall of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s ‘Iron Lady’

TOKYO — Sheikh Hasina, who ruled Bangladesh with an iron fist for years, was ousted on Aug. 5 by an increasingly violent wave of protests and eventually fled the country.

Crowds flock to the prime minister's empty residence, cheering the victory of the “citizen's revolution” and the abrupt end to Hasina's 15-year reign as the world's longest-serving female head of government.
