The path to a trilateral U.S.-Japan-South Korea alliance

Steve Park is the general chairman of the TriForum Organizing Committee. TriForum is a network of independent experts and opinion leaders from the United States, Japan and South Korea that aims to strengthen trilateral partnerships.

Experts in Seoul, Tokyo and especially Washington generally agree that South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has improved his country's relations with Japan. Recent polls show that 42% of Koreans have a favorable opinion of Japan, an all-time high. After the joint tripartite summit in Camp David in 2023, the three sides have continued to maintain a steady pace of cooperation. Last month, the countries' foreign ministers agreed to establish a tripartite secretariat to “institutionalize the important partnership for the future.”
