TikTok sell-or-ban hearing to begin in U.S. appeals court

PALO ALTO, Calif. — TikTok's Chinese owner ByteDance will present its case in a U.S. appeals court on Monday to block a proposed sale or ban bill that would shut down the popular short-form video app if it doesn't sell by Jan. 19. .

TikTok argues that the forced cutback by the US government is unconstitutional because it violates the First Amendment right to free speech and equal protection of the laws of its 170 million American users.
