Tokyo’s Shibuya and Shinjuku nix public drinking at Halloween

TOKYO — Tokyo's popular Shibuya and Shinjuku districts, areas increasingly popular with foreign visitors, are banding together to ban public drinking and limit Halloween fun in an effort to combat over-tourism.

Japan is in the midst of a tourism boom fueled by the easing of pandemic restrictions, a weak yen making the country a bargain destination and the growing popularity of Japanese pop culture, including manga and anime.
