TOKYO — Mizuho Financial Group has invested in US-based Zap Energy, becoming the first Japanese bank to buy a stake in an overseas company to pursue commercial success in nuclear fusion.
Investment arm Mizuho Innovation Frontier joined Zap's latest $130 million funding round as the sole Japanese investor. The size of Mizuho's investment was not disclosed, but is believed to be several hundred million yen (100 million yen equals $673,000).
