Apple announced in June that it plans to release a larger, higher-resolution version of Mac Virtual Display for Vision Pro. Now the company says it'll be making a slew of Mac announcements starting Monday, October 28, and many hope they'll include the yet-to-be-released mode.
“We have an exciting week full of announcements ahead of us starting Monday morning. Stay tuned,” Apple marketing executive Greg Joswiak explained recently on X.
Next week's announcements are likely to replace the annual Mac event, which is traditionally held in October and has historically seen new iPads and Macs launch. The event is likely centered around the company unveiling its new Mac lineup, which includes various flavors of the M4 chipsets.
But the Mac event could present an ideal opportunity to highlight the promised panoramic Mac Virtual Imaging feature for Vision Pro, which is scheduled to ship sometime after VisionOS 2.0 launches in June.
At the time, Apple said its new Mac-connected virtual displays would include “an ultrawide display that wraps around you” allowing for resolutions “equivalent to two 4K monitors side by side.” Thanks to dynamic foveated rendering on the Mac side, Apple ensures that content “stays sharp no matter where you look at it.”
Like everyone outside Apple's sphere of influence, we've yet to see this in action beyond the first WWDC keynote; but the on-stage teaser showed a simple UI toggle that allowed Mac Virtual Display users to select 'Normal', 'Wide' and 'Wide'. Ultrawide' modes.
If you want to follow along, you can bet Apple will stream the announcements live on its website and likely on its YouTube channel as well. There's no word yet on when it will launch, so check back soon.
Apple events usually start at 10 a.m. PT. You can click here to find your local time, but we'll update this article as we learn more.
