Location-based VR attraction Sandbox VR has announced plans to open 280 new locations over the next four years.
The company, which recently opened its 50th store in the Gold Coast region of Australia, is expected to grow rapidly thanks to the franchise program it launched in 2019.
The company says franchising has been “instrumental in making Sandbox VR the fastest-growing location-based VR startup globally, and this US momentum points to continued rapid growth.” Limited opportunities for premium locations and regional exclusivity in the US remain available.
The company also reported a 60% increase in franchise deals in Q2 of this year, noting that it now serves over 100,000 players per month and sells 1.2 million tickets by 2023.
Around the same time last year, Sandbox VR announced it had made $23 million in revenue Deadwood Valleyis the most popular VR experience, and like all of its content, it is produced in-house.
More recently, the company released its official licensed experience based on the popular Netflix series Squid Game. The company currently offers eight VR experiences that can accommodate teams of up to six people.
