VR MMO 'Zenith' Releases Final Content Update and Drops Price After Development Halt

The studio behind Ramen VR Zenith: The Last Cityannounced last month that it would cease development on the VR MMORPG, citing struggles to retain players. Now the game has received its final content update, along with a bittersweet farewell to new players: a lower price.

Update (August 29, 2024): Ramen VR has delayed its latest content drop to Zenith. Detailed in a blog post , the latest content update, Season 4: Golden Isles, was the result of player requests from community members on the Zenith Discord and customer feedback portal Feedbear.

The final season brings a bunch of new content to the free-to-play portion of Infinite Realms, as well as bug fixes for major issues in both Infinite Realms and the Zenith: The Last City paid DLC, including new layouts and new cosmetics in Infinite Realms, the return of the original Fast Fly, and a doubling of the daily raid limit in The Last City.

As a farewell, Zenith: The Last City's paid DLC has been reduced from its regular price of $30 to $10 and is available across all major VR headsets.

“We are grateful to all the Zenitheans who have been here since the beginning, and to everyone who decides to play the game in the future. Your passion is what brings Zenith to life, and we hope you continue to make new friends and make precious memories in Zenith for the foreseeable future,” the team said.

The game will also be holding “nostalgic community events” following the release of Season 4, which will take place from September 6-8. The original article detailing the development shutdown is below:

Original Article (July 15, 2024)The studio announced this news in a video linked below, which explains some of the reasons behind the decision:

“Zenith has had difficulty retaining players since very early on. While we had hundreds of thousands of players, the vast majority of them stopped playing Zenith after about a month,” the company says in an FAQ.

Originally the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2019, the Steam Early Access game secured a $10 million Series A funding round and later raised a $35 million Series B in March 2022. Just two months before securing its Series B, the studio announced Peak It's in the best position to take advantage of cross-platform play across PSVR and Quest 2.

Ramen VR revealed in early 2024 Peak had been losing money on a monthly basis for “the better part of a year”, prompting the studio to release the album Infinite Realms, A free-to-play model in hopes of attracting paying users.

“Despite our best efforts over 5.5 years of development (and before) Infinite Realms “Launched), we were unable to improve player retention. Zenith started losing money and it is not possible to continue operating at a loss,” the FAQ continues.

While the studio is halting development, it's not killing the game entirely. Parts for both paid games Zenith: The Last City game and free to play Zenith: Infinite Realms Ramen VR says the version will work for the “foreseeable future.” “The community will know well in advance if this changes.”
