VR's Most Immersive Kayaking Game Gets Real-Time Multiplayer on PSVR 2 and Steam

Ski VR: Mirage (2022) It's incredibly immersive, with a wealth of environments to explore in both single-player and asynchronous multiplayer modes. But you can't paddle across glaciers or cruise along tropical shores with a friend in real-time. But now, thanks to today's update, you can.

Originally released as a beta on Steam in mid-August, developer Better Than Life announced today that the real-time multiplayer mode is finally here Ski VR: Mirage On all supported platforms including Steam and PSVR 2.

Real-time multiplayer lets you and a friend explore together in free-roaming mode, providing the core of the experience. The studio says the initial release is missing a race mode, proximity chat, and physical objects like balls and other inflatables. It also doesn't currently feature cross-play, but the studio The Road to VR they may add it in the future.

“Development on this started over a year ago, and as it turns out, making a fully physics-based VR game where a character is in a rowboat, holding an oar, and working in multiplayer is no joke,” the studio says in a Steam update. “However, we think it's worth it, as we've had a lot of fun during our testing and can't wait to hear what you think!”

Ski VR: Mirage Its photorealistic environments—such as ice caves in Antarctica, tropical locations in Costa Rica, storm waters in Norway, and barren canyons in Australia—made it one of the top three most downloaded games in the US, Europe, and Japan in 2023. Its two-handed rowing, physics-based environment, and upper-body inverse kinematics (IK) make it particularly immersive.
